Post-operative ocular infection due to Streptococcus dysgalactiae subspecies equisimilis.

چکیده
Ocular infections due to Streptococcus dysgalactiae subsp. equisimilis are rare. In the present report, three patients with a history of uncomplicated small incision cataract surgery with intraocular lens implantation developed exogenous endophthalmitis due to Streptococcus dysgalactiae subsp. equisimilis. The identification of the organisms was confirmed by PCR for a 16S rRNA sequence specific to the species S. dysgalactiae. Intravitreal treatment of cefazolin and amikacin, in addition to topical ofloxacin and tobramycin, resulted in resolution of infection in all three patients. Our reports indicate the importance of bacterial culture and molecular identification in the diagnosis of S. dysgalactiae subsp. equisimilis infection in the eye.

Streptococcal toxic-shock syndrome due to Streptococcus dysgalactiaesubspecies equisimilis in breast cancer-related lymphedema: a case report
BACKGROUND Breast cancer-related lymphedema often causes cellulitis and is one of the most common complications after breast cancer surgery. Streptococci are the major pathogens underlying such cellulitis. Among the streptococci, the importance of the Lancefield groups C and G is underappreciated; most cases involve Streptococcus dysgalactiae subspecies equisimilis. Despite having a relatively ...

Streptococcus dysgalactiae subsp. equisimilis belongs to the β-hemolytic group C and G pyogenic group of streptococci. Here, we report the draft genome of the S. dysgalactiae subsp. equisimilis strain C161L1 from Vellore, a region in southern India with a high incidence rate of S. dysgalactiae subsp. equisimilis infection. This genome is 2.1 Mb long, with a 39.82% G+C content, and encodes 2,022...
متن کاملSpondylodiscitis Caused by Streptococcus dysgalactiae Subspecies Equisimilis: A Case Report of an Increasingly Recognized Pathogenic Organism
Streptococcus dysgalactiae subspecies equisimilis (SDSE) is a β-hemolytic Streptococcus that possesses genetic and clinical similarities to Streptococcus pyogenes. It is increasingly recognized as the etiological microorganism of invasive diseases. We report a case of a 74-year-old male who was admitted to this hospital with lower back and neck pain and infected with leg ulcer. The diagnosis of...
متن کاملSystemic Streptococcus dysgalactiae Subspecies equisimilis Infection in a Yorkshire Pig with Severe Disseminated Suppurative Meningoencephalomyelitis
An 18-week-old female breeding Yorkshire pig displayed symptoms of astasia and subsequently died. Histologically, severe disseminated suppurative meningoencephalomyelitis was detected, as were numerous myocardial microabscesses. Gram-positive cocci were detected in these suppurative lesions, and these cocci reacted with an antibody against Streptococcus C group species. Gram-positive cocci were...
متن کاملStreptococcus dysgalactiae subspecies equisimilis bacteraemia in an HIV-1 patient with HBV/HCV co-infections: case report and literature review.
Streptococcus dysgalactiae subspecies equisimilis (SDSE) is a common pathogen in animals and generally considered a rare cause of infection in humans. Recently, epidemiological studies demonstrated an increasing number of severe infections, including bacteraemia and endocarditis, caused by SDSE, mainly in predisposed hosts, immunocompromised by underlying conditions. Even though the immune stat...
